Dunia kini laksana sebuah dusun kecil. Penyatuan berbagai bangsa merupakan sebuah keniscayaan. Namun, realitas menunjukkan umat Islam sekarang terpecah-belah. Kaum Muslim terkotak-kotak menjadi lebih dari 50 negara kecil-kecil. Antar negara itu pun terjadi pertentangan.
Suriah dan Libanon masih bersitegang. Negara-negara Teluk membiarkan Irak digempur AS sendirian. Indonesia dan Malaysia masih berebut blok Ambalat. Israel mencaplok wilayah Palestine, muslim Rohingya di usir dari rumahnya.
Belum ada yang dapat menyatukan umat terbaik yang diturunkan bagi manusia itu. Padahal Allah dan Rasulullah menegaskan bahwa umat Islam adalah satu, laksana tubuh. "Setiap muslim bagi muslim lainnya adalah bagaikan suatu bangunan, yang saling menguatkan satu dengan lainnya" (HR: Bukhari Muslim).
